Why comment engagement outperforms cold outreach
The quietest sales channel on LinkedIn — and how to work it well.
Cold outreach on LinkedIn has never worked worse than it does now. Inboxes are triaged aggressively, templates are recognised instantly, and even the well-crafted ones sit unread beneath a queue of similar attempts. Meanwhile, a channel that almost nobody talks about produces some of the warmest inbound conversations we see: thoughtful public commenting.
The mechanics
Pick ten to fifteen accounts your ideal clients already read — not competitors, not celebrities, but the operators and adjacent voices your buyers respect. Comment on their work, substantively, three or four times a week. Not agreement. Not applause. A genuine addition.
- A specific example that extends their point.
- A gentle counter-view with your reasoning.
- A question that makes the author think, not perform.
A great comment on somebody else's post reaches the exact audience you would have paid to reach.
Why it works
Your comment appears to that account's audience — often larger and better-qualified than your own — with your headline attached. Do it consistently for a quarter and you will be quietly familiar to hundreds of the exact people you want to speak to, before you have ever sent them a message.
